Department Of Community Medicine
1. Introduction: Community Medicine earlier known as Department of Preventive and Social Medicine (PSM) is the branch of medicine concerned with the health of populations. Community physicians are involved in implementing the disease prevention programs, assessing the community health needs, managing the healthcare teams and doing advocacy for health promoting policies besides diagnosing and treating the diseases.
Provision of comprehensive health care to all members of the community is one of the major responsibilities of Community Medicine.
2. Academics
Department of Community Medicine has been training undergraduates from the inception of HIMS , HASSAN and Postgraduates from 2014.

B. Postgraduate training- MD in Community Medicine
Public health Training: students are not only taught on the principles and concepts of community health but also given field level training at Urban And Rural Health Training Centers attached To HIMS, Hassan.
3. Services provided:
a.Anti rabies clinic (ARC); Dog bite wound management and vaccination against rabies
b.Immunization clinic: Providing Vaccination and counseling services for all pregnant and under five children against vaccine preventable diseases
c.Community based Palliative care services in association with Local NGO
