DEPARTMENT OF BIOCHEMISTRY

  1. About the department:

Department of Biochemistry is committed to provide competency based education to students, high quality diagnostic services to patients and to conduct high quality research.

Students of I-MBBS, Paramedical and Nursing are taught Biochemistry to understand molecular basis of life in health and disease. It helps to understand disease mechanisms. Academic activities include theory classes, practical classes, tutorials, seminars, group discussions, integrated teaching and periodic assessment of the students.

Laboratory diagnostic services have become more important than ever, for the clinician to arrive at a diagnosis. They form the cornerstone of healthcare. Department of Biochemistry offers diagnostic services round the clock, supporting the clinicians with wide range of investigations and panel of tests. HIMS lab is the only NABL Accredited Laboratory amongst all Karnataka Govt Medical College Hospitals

Research activities are integral component of our department. Departmental staff members are actively involved in research and have published more than 18 articles in various national and international scientific journals and presented papers in various conferences.

Department is well equipped with a research laboratory, undergraduate practical halls, demonstration rooms, seminar hall, and a departmental library which has updated text books and reference books for the use of faculty and Undergraduate students.

The department’s clinical Biochemistry section is equipped with fully automated analyzers, semi-automated analyzers, electrolyte analyzers etc to evaluate organ profiles for the right diagnosis, monitor patient compliance and outcome of treatment.

  1. Services Provided:

At College:

Undergraduate teaching for I-MBBS students, Paramedical students, and Nursing students.

PG Teaching: MD Biochemistry students are trained in clinical laboratary, Research Methodology, and undergraduate teaching.

At Hospital Laboratory:

HIMS Lab is the only NABL Accredited Laboratory amongst all Karnataka Govt Medical College Hospitals.

It ensures Assured Quality Reports to patients and a Great Exposure to Biochemistry PG students. Laboratory Diagnostic services are provided round the clock to patients of HIMS Teaching hospital and Sri Chamarajendra Hospital.
