Anaesthesiology

Introduction:

The Department of Anaesthesiology was started in the year 2006 in Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences. It was started as a small department with limited number of staffs in Chamarajendra Teaching Hospital with only 5 operation theatres. In the year 2015, a dedicated OT block was opened in 4th floor, HIMS Teaching Hospital, with well-equipped 10 operation theatres. A dedicated 25 bedded MICU, SICU also became operational in the same floor since 2015.

Our department provides anaesthesia services to all surgical specialties including general surgery, orthopaedics, obstetrics and gynaecology, ENT, oral faciomaxillary surgeries(dental), paediatric, ophthalmology and psychiatry(ECT).  We also extend our services to all the critically ill patients in all ICUs.

Our department regularly conducts Continued Medical Educational programs, Conferences, BLS and ACLS Workshops to healthcare workers and frontline warriors. Academic activities like Seminars, Journal Clubs, Case Discussions are conducted regularly in the department involving all the staff and undergraduate students to keep up with the changing trends in the field of Anaesthesiology.

We are Happy to announce that 3 PG seats sanctioned from the year of 2022 and we are planning to increase the number of seats in the upcoming years, we are working hard to enhance upto 10 seats in the forthcoming years.

In this era of COVID- 19 pandemic, our departmental staff and technicians are tirelessly, generously risking their lives, extending their services to the critically ill COVID 19 patients in the ICU. We are also involved in monitoring the daily oxygen levels of the entire hospital continuously from the past 18 months. In view of growing demand of the ICU beds due to covid-19, fully equipped 100 bedded ICU has been established, thus serving the people in need.

Vision of the department:

Our vision is to be one of the best and leading anaesthesia departments across the nation by providing an excellent anaesthesia care, skills and training to young doctors to become competent anaesthesiologists.

Objectives:

 * Providing evidence based clinical care in the areas of preoperative evaluation, perioperative care, postoperative critical care and pain management.

 * Providing highest quality training to undergraduates and postgraduates, as well as anaesthesia technicians, through commitment to mentorship and education.

 * To deliver best care to all critically ill patients in various ICUs (MICU, SICU, PICU,OBG ICU).

 * To encourage and motivate the departmental staff and students in research activities.
